I really like small architecture and the Box House by Alan Chu and Cristiano Kato is no exception.

The 3×5m box is the caretaker’s house on a property on Ilhabela Island, overlooking the São Sebastião Channel near São Paulo, Brazil. On the upper floor in the white suspended box is the bedroom and beneath it is the living room, kitchen and bathroom.

Following the movie posters and book, Kevin Dart has further brought to life the world of Yuki 7 via a theatrical trailer for ‘A Kiss From Tokyo’.

Made in collaboration with animator Stephane Coedel and music composer Cyrille Marchesseau the resulting animation (set in 1964) is every bit the vintage spy film complete with faded logo, film grain and audio pops.

To accompany the Yuki  7 film posters (check them out here) Kevin Dart has produced a very slick looking book titled Seductive Espionage: The World of Yuki 7.

The book contains artwork by Kevin Dart along with contributions from a number of his friends and colleagues to create a pseudo “Art of” book with production artwork, movie stills, posters, and behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the Yuki 7 movies.

Seductive Espionage: The World of Yuki 7 is available at Kevin Dart’s online store here.

Kevin Dart is a freelance illustrator based in Southern California and is the creator of Secret Agent Yuki-7; the star of one of his most recent projects – a series of retro looking spy movie posters.

“Yuki was the result of a lot of ideas that had been floating around my head for a long time.  When I got back from working in London last year I was thinking a lot about this concept of a jet-setting spy girl with impeccable taste in fashion.  I love 60’s spy films like Deadlier than the Male, Danger: Diabolik, and of course the James Bond movies.  So I wanted to create a fictional series of movies that, had they actually been made, would have been the greatest spy films ever made – filled with awesome chase scenes, amazing costumes and sets, and gorgeous ladies.” – Kevin Dart in an interview at grainedit.com

As if the above four posters weren’t cool and exotic enough – Kevin has also created four equivalent Japanese and French posters just for good measure:

To accompany the Yuki-7 posters, Kevin has also created a pseudo ‘behind the scenes’ book and an animated film trailer. Check them out in the following blog entries here.

Below are some of my other favourite pieces of artwork from Kevin Dart.

All the Yuki-7 posters along with some of his older ones are available at his online store Fleet Street Scandal.

There are also some great interviews with Kevin that give a really good insight into his influences and creative process over at spyvibe and grainedit.

alphabet of design classics

It’s never too early to get a little tacker into design!

Designed by Joel Pirela of Blue Ant Studio, the ‘Alphabet of Design Classics’ poster has many of my favourite designers and furniture pieces including Alvar Aalto’s Savoy Vase, the Eames DAX plastic armchair and the Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen. The colours look cool and I really love the detail of the silhouettes.

I’m sure it was originally designed with a child’s bedroom wall in mind but seriously, I think it would look just as good on my wall.

The Alphabet of Design Classics poster is available to order online at the Blue Ant Studio website here.

I saw this great desk accessory over at notcot the other week and haven’t been able to get it out of my head. Designed by New York City-based, O’Brian Muehleisen Architecture Studio, Place For Trace is a trace-paper and pen holder crafted from timber.

"The ubiquitous roll of trace has long adorned architects’ desks. As ours inevitably wound up in a drawer, only to succumb to marks and tearing, we had in our minds that there should be a better place for such an important tool. The result is Place for Trace." - OMAS

It comes in four timber finishes: Walnut, Cherry, Oak and Maple and is available online at Merchant 4. I just finished ordering one and I can’t wait to get it – MY DESK IS GOING TO LOOK SO RAD!
